Experience Rejuvenation Season at the Reef House this Summer

While the rest of Australia starts to unwind towards the end of the year, in Tropical North Queensland, this is a time of reinvigoration and rejuvenation.

Summer in the sunshine state sees some of the most spectacular natural displays of beauty, and for people who visit the region, they experience a level of relaxation that is difficult to harness anywhere else.

To make the most of this time of year, here at the Reef House, we’ve created an exclusive tropical escape experience at our adults only boutique hotel in Palm Cove.

But, before we give you the inside details of our Rejuvenation Season offer, let’s talk a little bit about what you can expect when you visit Tropical North Queensland during rejuvenation season.

What is rejuvenation season?

Rejuvenation season signals the beginning of change. Colloquially known as the wet season, the summer months has nature working hard to create a marvellously relaxing environment for all.

Along with an incredible display of natural beauty, nature is also providing sustenance for the local wildlife and opportunities for us to experience nature in a way that can be done anywhere else.

Summertime is truly special in Tropical North Queensland because it somehow finds a balance between relaxation and rebirth, creating this overwhelming feeling of rejuvenation.

You can explore and escape into a natural world so incredible, you’ll find it hard to leave.

Some of the amazing nature-based experiences you could have include:

Animal Encounters

During rejuvenation season the warm summer rain helps the land to produce even more food for the wildlife of the area, which encourages them out of hiding.

You can encounter animals in all kinds of places, including on ventures into the Wet Tropics rainforest and at wildlife sanctuaries in the area.

Even if you don’t go looking for them, chances are that you will still catch glimpses of the local animals in Palm Cove, or at the very least, you will hear the mating call of frogs at this time of year.

The Marine World Starts its New Cycle of Life

Summer is also a time for rejuvenation in the marine world, with it being an important time of year for procreation.

November to February is turtle nesting and hatching season, so depending on when you visit during the season, you may see turtles nesting on the beaches or the parade of the hatching baby turtles.

Perhaps one of the most spectacular natural events happens underwater – coral spawning. Occurring usually sometime in November or December, the coral polyps of the Great Barrier Reef will release their spawn bundles for the external fertilisation that helps the Great Barrier Reef to continue to thrive.

The exact timing of coral spawning can be difficult to predict as there are certain conditions that encourage the coral polyps to reproduce, however, if you do have the chance to see it, it’s an amazing experience.

Tropical Rainforest Adventures

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing the rainforests in Tropical North Queensland before, then you may know how incredible they are. During the summer months though, the rainforest transforms into an incredible natural playground that offers amazing sites to see and endless opportunities of adventure.

Countless shades of green emerge amongst the foliage at this time of year, and as you explore the numerous rainforests, including the Daintree rainforest, you may feel as if you’ve somehow transported back to a simpler time.

You will see varieties of plants that you’ve never seen or even heard of, and these, along with the wildlife encounters you can have, makes for some special experiences.

Wander through the Waterfalls

With a little extra rain comes the benefit of even more spectacular waterfalls. Tropical North Queensland is known for its many amazing waterfalls, and while they are beautiful at any time of year, when the flow of the water is at its peak, they are truly mystifying.

Very few places in the world can compete with the abundance and beauty of the waterfalls in our region, and luckily, there are many that are within close proximity to Palm Cove.

You can take tours to see them, or you could try going on a self-guided adventure, which we’ve put together some information about our favourite waterfalls here.

Experience the Rain

We know that you’ve likely seen rain before, however, unless you live in a tropical climate, chances are you haven’t seen it like this before.

The rain of the wet season is something special. It provides a soundtrack and a sight to see for anyone in the area. Often the rain doesn’t last too long and occurs in the afternoon or evening, which is perfect for when you’re winding down your day.

The rain is feeding the world around you and is an important part of rejuvenation season.
