The Kuranda Original Markets

The Kuranda Original Rainforest Markets began in 1978 on Honey House land by a group of local people trying to attract visitors to Kuranda. At that time, the village was very small with many Hippie Artists and craft people.

Kuranda is world famous for its markets. The Village in the Rainforest has two market locations, the Kuranda Original Rainforest Markets and the Heritage Markets, both of which are open every day of the year. Stalls offer a wide range of Aboriginal artefacts, handmade leather goods, wood and jewellery. Stall holders are happy to explain their craft and overseas posting is not a problem. Entertainment from wandering buskers may also be enjoyed.

Situated high in the rainforest mountains, just getting to Kuranda can be a scenic experience. Driving a vehicle of your choice is an easy alternative, hire car firms are numerous, or a chauffeured limousine could be a special treat. Try a taxi or car-for-hire service like Uber or ride share with a knowledgeable local driver to guide you. For the brave, motor bike hire is ideal for a close encounter with the smells of the forest and the added attraction of stopping when and where you choose. The journey from Palm Cove is around 35-minutes by car.

Open 7 Days from 9.30 AM to 3.00 PM / Address: Corner of Therwine & Thoree St, Kuranda
